Bayswater West Primary School is located in Phyllis Street Bayswater on a spacious elevated site offering panoramic views of the Dandenong Ranges. Currently the enrolment is 170 and this number will grow in 2010 with many families choosing to come to our wonderful school. Our school is committed to creating a dynamic learning community where all students feel safe, healthy and happy.

Students are supported to work cooperatively, take pride in their school, value others and work to their potential. A strong community partnership exists between the families and staff at this school.

Curriculum

An extensive curriculum is provided based on the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. Our school promotes a quality educational program with emphasis on English, mathematics and science whilst celebrating and promoting the Arts, physical education and health.

Currently specialist teachers provide programs in Science, The Arts LOTE Italian and Physical Education While the learning environment encourages children to develop initiative, integrity and self-discipline, particular attention is paid to student needs. An individual learning plan is established for all students.

Staff provide a range of extra curricula activities for students ranging from Choir to Garden, Science and Cooking Clubs.

Enrichment programs are offered to support curriculum areas. These include Swimming, Religious Education, Integration, Instrumental Music, Bike Education, Junior School Council, Camping, Perceptual Motor Program, Special Needs Education and Parent Education Programs.

Highly qualified and experienced teaching professionals staff Bayswater West Primary. Parents are actively involved in school activities and are an integral part of the learning process.

The school’s operations are also enhanced by the effective use of the expertise of outside services including speech therapy, occupational therapy, educational psychology, medical practitioners and the Visiting Teacher Service.

Facilities

The school predominantly consists of one large, permanent, brick building that incorporates most of our classrooms, administration area, a multi-purpose room, well-stocked, modern Information Technology centre and an Out of School Hours Care facility.

Additional buildings include an Art/Craft facility and Science room. The school is currently engaged in a major building project which will involve the creation of a large multi funtion sports and arts facility. The school is also refurbishing and painting all classrooms and learning spaces in the main building block.

School grounds are spacious, well maintained and provide for a mix of active and passive activities for student and community use. The grounds facilities include a hard court space, separate lower and upper primary play equipment and an abundance of trees and birds attracting shrubs around the grounds. A strong environmental focus is evident in the grounds and gardens that students actively maintain.

Our school grounds also feature; a soundshell, fitness track, passive play areas, basketball courts shaded sand pits, water tanks and vegetable gardens.
