Bayswater West Primary School has a particular commitment to Languages Other Than English (LOTE), the language being taught in our school is Italian.
Students are provided with many and varied opportunities to explore their LOTE through a one hour per week allotment. A fully qualified LOTE teacher and a native multicultural aide ensure that student have plenty of support in their language learning.
What are the advantages of your child learning another language?
- LOTE is great fun. We use games, songs, imaginative roleplay, craft, storytelling as well as reading and writing to encourage all types of learners.
- LOTE learning helps children to improve their literacy in English.
- LOTE opens children's eyes to the wider world and encourages appreciation and respect for different cultures.
- Whatever LOTE children learn at primary school will help them with language learning at high school: even if it's a different language.
- LOTE can be useful in a future career or for travel.
- Recent studies show that learning a second language when young even helps reduce your risk of suffering from dementia in your old age!
